<title>Database of upload speeds of various BSNL plans ?</title>
  <link>http://feeds.vinuthomas.com/~r/vinuthomas/VXfq/~3/KI51OQMe7Ik/p=102764.html</link>
<description>Latest Post: I was just wondering if anybody has or is maintaining a list of upload speeds offered by various BSNL plans ?
..or is it so that BSNL has some standard equation such that upload is some percent of the download speed ?

<title>My turn to jump ship (I give up on Nokia)</title>
  <link>http://feeds.vinuthomas.com/~r/vinuthomas/VXfq/~3/QLDiDa4akBw/p=102757.html</link>
<description>Latest Post: You being a student in U.S. I really wonder why did you buy a 5800 in 2011. It's a very outdated phone. There are better nokia phones out in the mkt.

Nokia do have many symbian belle. (Now Nokia belle) n windows 1 Ghz phones.

  Andriod also have its drawbacks

Poor battery backup. Even a new andriod with better mah battery won't last\standby for more than 2 days.

Andriod is a huge hit because it's an open source. And it has big market place for apps n games nxt to ios. Andriod mkt is getting bigger than IOS.

You can customize the andriod phone or tab the way you want. I do have an andriod, rooted it n enjoying new ICS. The latest andriod Upgrade.

Still andriod lacks better battery backup. No better custom kernals to fix it.

If you 're are not into these technical stuff n just want a phone with pretty UI, basic n other internet functionalities. Andriod is a good choice. Buy a spare battery along with the phone.

What's your budget? I may suggest a better andriod phone that suits your budget. Nexus is not a bad choice, but there are better alternatives.

Finally nokia is not bad either. Check their Lumia series windows phones.

If you have a big interest in modding, you may also check htc hd2 the old htc 1 ghz phone. Which has windows on stock, but you can port andriod to it. And even you can have Andriod, ubuntu n windows multiple boot in one phone. You can buy an used one from ebay.

HD2 in particular is a g8 phone for testers n app developers. It hardware handles everything smoothly that you port to it.

I have read that article before. For it to work, it needs to have the computer in sleep or standby mode and ram needs to be taken out and freezed with liquid nitrogen asap and a program that scans for encryption keys in the ram memory. It is called cold-boot attack and no kind of encryption will protect against that.

In short , if a machine gets physically stolen when it is in active use then it is screwed.

Woooooooooooahhhh !! Liquid Nitrogen ? That sure is some kind of cold-boot.

But I am just wondering how do you put RAM in Liquid Nitrogen ASAP ? And how one run a scanning tool while its in the Liquid Nitrogen or I am missing out something? May be I am too old for this shit\ :p

  <title>BSNL UMS?</title>
  <link>http://feeds.vinuthomas.com/~r/vinuthomas/VXfq/~3/b99TFDYqxaM/p=102742.html</link>
<description>Latest Post: HERE IS DETAILED PROCEDURE
***************************

Had to go through lot of hops to get it working. Don't know why BSNL makes things so complicated for themselves. It seems BSNL call center 1503 does not know anything about Voice mail system, features or its existance. There are two services
1. BSNL Voice mail system-Free to use but will be charged normal call charges to retrieve voice messages
2. BSNL UMS System (Unified Messaging System)-Includes, Voice Mail, Fax, Email service (yourbsnlnumber@bsnlums.com) Rs. 75/month subscription charges

Ok now lets come to how to activate and use BSNL Voicemail or BSNL UMS System.

Activate BSNL CellOne Voice Mail system- Send sms ACT VMS to 53733 and wait for activation confirmation message. After activation you have to dial 17000 to configure your voice mail box (Greeting, Password etc). (If you dail 17000 with out VMS activation you will be prompted to enter your UMS mailbox number)

After setting up your Voicemail box. You have to go to call divert and Set-If Busy divert to +9117000, If not answered divert to +9117000, If out of reach divert to +9117000 etc. (BSNL guys say it will only work for if busy-Just ignore them. They don't know what they are talking about-Lazy ass...)

*******************************************************************************************************************
Activate BSNL CellOne UMS (Unified Messaging System)- Send sms ACT UMS to 53733 and wait for confirmation message. After activation Rs.75 will be deducted from your balance as first months fee. After activation you have to dial 17000 to configure your voice mail box (Greeting, 4 digit Password, FAX and EMail Settings etc). You have to send sms DACT UMS to 53733 to deactivate this service.

Now you can go to www.bsnlums.com and log on with your phone number and 4 digit password (which you set after dialing 17000) to check your Voice messages/Fax/Email online.

One exiting feature of having UMS is you have an email address with YourBSNLmobilenumber@bsnlums.com to send and receive emails (Example 9440000123@bsnlums.com) or what ever your bsnl cell number.

You may face weired issue after activaiton. Your call will not get diverted to the Voicemail number (+9117000). The caller gets message that the call is being forwarded and the call gets disconnected. In this case get hold of your circle BSNL Cellone DE (Divisional Engineer) and request them to fix the issue. If you call 1503 those idiots does not know what your problem is and you will simply waste time. Trust me on this.. I wasted almost two weeks trying to explain the customer service idiots (1503) about the problem and got fedup...

Good luck with your Voice Mail/UMS features. Note that ONLY BSNL has these features and no other provider provides these services. Thats why I am with BSNL....

For the last couple of years, it seems like the default DNS servers assigned by BNSL to my router are defective. Once I changed them manually to "8.8.8.8" and "4.2.2.1", everything works.

  <description>Latest Post: Guys

Have any of you considered installing a T1 at home to get better upload speeds? T1's usually are unlimited usage and download and upload speeds are the same

I'm considering this and looking for other's thoughts. Most broadband plans have an upload speed of 256kbps and even some providers who claim 512 are really only giving in the 200's which is no good for video apps, etc

Thanks

<title>Is there a surge protector for ethernet ?</title>

  <description>Latest Post: Freedom wrote:

So if the other two wires from the electric meter are earthed, then will I have enough surge protection ? Protection is about where energy dissipates. Any wire not earthed at the service entrance means that energy goes hunting inside.

Also important is the quality of that earthing. A wire too long to earth will connect less energy harmlessly to earth. More earthing electrodes may be required. Any sharp wire bends or splices further obstructs the earthing connection.

It is not just earthing exists. Quality of that earthing is also important.

An example. Lightning repeatedly struck an exterior bathroom wall. They installed lightning rods. Lightning again struck that bathroom wall.

Lightning rods were only earthed by 8' ground rods in sand. Bathroom wall contained plumbing that connected to deeper and more conductive soil. Better (deeper) rods in this case made lightning rods effective. Another example of why better earthing (not a lightning rod or protector) best defines protection.

Earthing is the only item that must always exist in any protection system. How effective is that system? A protector is only as effective as its earth ground. Better earthing (ie single point earth ground, shorter connection, etc) means better protection. Protection is always about where energy dissipates. A better energy absorber means better protection.

<description>Latest Post: No idea. My old CRT must have given many years use, having been a cast off from my office. Even though the case was damaged in transit, it still gave another couple of years use in India.

My "new" LCD is now two or three years old. It cost over 13,000. I hope not to have to spend that very often!

I had a similar experience with a Philips 15-inch LCD TV, which also doubled as a PC monitor. It died after only a couple of years. The service centre said it needed a part which would have to be imported and it would be cheaper for me to buy a new one. Sometimes we win, sometimes we loose...

<description>Latest Post: Correct me if I am wrong, but 32 bit PAE can also support 8GB. (upto 64 GB). I have 12 GB ram, I can test with a PAE kernel if you want.

While I am a linux person (i havent used windows for 13 years now), but this page tells you about the windows PAE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension

It needs some tweaking to be enabled.

Linux PAE is on by default if you install kernel-PAE (2.3.23 onwards)

Try /usr/bin/festival ... or you can try the "updatedb" and "locate". However, most programs by default, install their binaries in your /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin etc.

<description>Latest Post: anyone using tata indicom having a working dsl-500t modem. i would like to buy it. provided it works. okay i give up. i am ready to make a bank transfer as opposed to DD which got me to trouble as posts. i need that modem desperately. min one number, 2 is excellent. i am doing a major project using it. and i cant find it. my project is stuck. please dont blackmail with exorbitant price. its old modem and will be obsolete soon as per standard. i am offering a decent price of 500 each, let me know the total price along with courier charges, if in chennai let me know. i will pick it up personally. just make sure it works. and just because i am in dire need of it, dont blackmail by asking a huge price. please help me finish the project by offering the device and accept the decent price. there are way more powerful devices with more features and thats the only device which only fits in the project puzzle. thanks one and one. please help me finish the project and help me procure the device. all i want is one device atleast, 2 is okay.
all i know is tata indicom used to provide exact model way back in 2003 onwards IIRC and before that it was provided by dishnet dsl.
thanks one and everyone for reading this post.
kindly help me procure that device and help me finish my project. if you need indepth information w/o getting confused. i can explain it in detail.
bye for now. damn exhausted, fighting confusionism in that wretched forum.
may be tomorrow i can explain the project. but i really need it.

  <description>Latest Post: hi there, everyone,
i started this query last night, and as of now i am exhausted and frustrated. long story short. i need dsl-500t for my college project. i went to indiabroadband forum first and posted, the initial response was okay, i was hopeful and then i found out there i was stuck with utter procastinates. i am really heck tired and frustrated with the fight against confusion and procastinsm which got me banned there, within 24 hours. now i am making a request here. i am not advertising that forum. but there under this same nick i made a plight. and all high hope thanks to essbebe, but mickey turned out to be a well..... anyway. different website and different topic but the problem is the same i desperately need a dsl-500T dsl modem by d-link, can anyone help me procure it. i live in chennai. can you drop me a mail nickname here @yahoo.com and send me a mail. we need to finish the project i guess i am really tired even searching this device. can anyone anyone help me procure it.
i dont want to go technical, i did explain it in full detail in that forum and then i got assurances and high hopes and then a ban. can i expect you folks help me procure a dsl-500t modem and help me finish the project. i am urgent need of it. the whole project is stalled because of it.
unlike that forum i wont make the mistake of explaining jargon and confusing you and thus get banned.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME PROCURE A DSL-500T MODEM UNDER WORKING CONDITION.
tens and hundreds and thousand and million and billions and trillions and whatillions thanks if you can help me procure a dsl-500t modem. thanks a lot in advance.
and if i have to come across admins and mods like mockey, please ban me. as i am sick and tired of dealing with confused people as they are way confused about what to be confused about. thanks.
my request and plight dsl-500t modem. pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee anyone. the whole project is at a standstill as it lacks this modem.
